Are you constantly chasing happiness? Do you feel like your problems are deeper than just material possessions? You're not alone. In today's world, stress and worry have become a part of our lives, and our mental health is suffering. We're still determining what we care about and have so many choices that it's hard to know what's important.
It's time to step back and understand the root cause of our emotions and feelings. The ego, which is not the real you, controls us and relies on external things to feel important. It needs constant attention and protection. It's the reason behind our attachments to others and the material world. When we don't have control over our ego, we don't feel calm, content, or happy except for a short period when we get what we crave.
But how do our ego and mind interrupt our thoughts and feelings? The mind is not just about thinking. It's also about how we feel and react without realizing it. Our emotions happen when our minds and body are aligned.
If we have a bad thought or feel angry, our body warms up and prepares to fight. Our body chemistry changes when we have strong emotions or feel good.
Feelings are simpler than thinking. Sometimes we don't even know what feeling we are using when we think. When we don't remember or pay attention to our feelings, we don't know why we do things, and we make up reasons that seem true but are not always right.
All feelings come from one main feeling, not knowing who we are beyond our names and body. This feeling is hard to name because it's not just one thing. It includes feeling alone, incomplete, and afraid. This fear is not always about what's happening now, but it can show up in different ways, like feeling uneasy, worried, phobia, anxiety, or tense.
Living in the present moment, but our mind is off to the future or past, can make us anxious.
To be free from this feeling, we must stop thinking we are our mind or ego. The ego is weak and feels unsafe, even if we seem sure of ourselves. It brings emotional pain that makes us feel incomplete. To feel better about ourselves, we try to find things to identify with, like money, success, intimate relationships, or material stuff.
However, even when we get those things, we still feel incomplete, and the feeling is never satisfied.
So how is this an issue in our modern world? The issue is that we're always trying to chase happy feelings and end up feeling worse. Learning to be okay with feeling bad sometimes makes us feel better in the long run.
It's time to take control of our ego and mind and not let them control us. We must stop chasing happiness and focus on what's important in our lives. Let's start by understanding ourselves and being okay with our feelings, no matter how uncomfortable they may be.
